Market during the week ended on 12-09-2008

BSE Sensex was 14,483.83 on 05-09-2008.

BSE Sensex ended down 483.02 or 3.33 % at 14,000.81. During the week it hit high of 15,107.01 on Monday and hit low of 13,933.87 on Friday.

BSE Midcap ended down 216.58 points or 3.76 % at 5,537.14.

BSE Smallcap ended down 193.68 points or 2.81 % at 6,711.54.

Nifty declined 123.85 points or 2.85 % at 4,228.45.

On Friday, in spite of positive news like weakening inflation and better IIP numbers, markets didn't recover. This proves how the sentiment is disturbed during these days.

During the week the Indian Rupee breached 45-mark against the US $. FIIs were net seller during the week.

Inflation eased for the week ended on 30-08-2008 at 12.10 as compared to 12.34 % recorded for the year ended on 23-08-2008.

The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) for the month of July 2008 jumped to 7.1% as against 5.4% in the month of June 2008.

Major loser indices during the week were : Metal (down 7.67 %), Realty (down 5.74 %), CD (down 5.57 %), Oil & Gas (down5.56 %), IT (down 3.42 %).

Major gainers in Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki (3.52 %), HUL (1.55 %), Grasim (1.55 %), ACC (1.01 %), ITC (0.90 %) and Ranbaxy (0.82 %) over the week.

Major losers in Sensex pack were Sterlite Ind (17.13 %), Reliance Infra (8.52 %), Tata power (7.12 %), Reliance Ind (7.12 %), Tata Steel (6.71 %) and Jaiprakash Asso. (5.94 %).
