Mergers and acquisition

The Mergers and Acquisition (M & A) activity in Aisa Pacific region dropped nearly 30% to US $ 160 billion in the first quarter of 2009 as against US $ 223.21 billion in the same period a year-ago.

Japan is at the top with 904 M & A deals in first quarter of 2009. Next are Australia with 636 deals, Republic of Korea with 620 deals, China with 611 deals and India with 331 deals. India had witnessed 571 deals in the first quarter of last year while they had been 176 in the fourth quarter of 2008. The 331 deals of the first quarter of 2009 is of value US $ 6.85 billion.

The number of deals in the region has fallen 24% to 3952 from 5194 deals in the first quarter of 2008.
