Warren Buffett was born on Aug 30, 1930. He had 2 sisters. His father Howard was a stock-broker who turned to a Congressman.
He displayed an amazing aptitude for money and business at an early age. At only six, he pocketed profit of 5 cents by selling Coca Cola. At the age of playing, he started making money. At 11, he purchased 3 shares of Cities Service preferred at $ 38 per share. Shortly after buying, the shares fell to $ 27 per share. He held the shares until it bounced back to $ 40 and he sold at $ 40. Then the shares shot up to $ 200. The experience taught him : "PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE".
Education :
In 1947, a seventeen year old Warren Buffett graduated from High School. It never intended to go to school, as he made $ 5000 by delivering newspaper. His father urged him to attend the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania. Buffett stayed 2 years, complaining that he new more than his professors. Then he returned home and transferred to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Working full time, he managed to graduatein only 3 years. He finally applied for Harvard Business School which rejected his application stating he was too young. Then Warren applied to Columbia where Ben Graham and David Dodd were his professors.
Personal Life :
At 45, Susan Buffett, his wife, left him. She was a singer and wanted to live in her own way. Though she remained married to Warren, she secured an appartment in San Francisco and she alone shifted there.
By the late 70s his reputation had grown to the point that investors believed that whichever shares Warren buys, shortly give 10 % returns. Warren Buffett never sold a single share of his company, Berkshire Hathaway.
